Please note the best times to visit Glistening Waters. It will continue to glow for a couple of hours. Make sure you bring an empty bottle so you can take a sample of this marvelous water back with you. The water is not very deep, only about 3 or 4 feet and life jackets are available for those who need them.ĭon’t worry, you will not miss out if you choose not to swim – your tour guide will more than likely fill a bucket of water for you to play with. If you choose to swim, once you get out of the water you will see your swimsuit and body light up as you move around. It is remarkable to see people in the water light up. Once the boat is far out enough, you may get the option to swim and I encourage a few of you to do so. You will even see fish swim around and blue light surround them. You will see the water light up around you. Try to dip your hand or foot in the water. The lagoon is home to millions of these organisms that thrive where the salt water meets the fresh water. The lagoon is the best place to see the microscopic organisms called dinoflagellates. Jamaica’s luminous lagoon being the brightest of them all amazes scientists and visitors worldwide. The microscopic organisms live and create a natural phenomenon, known as bioluminescence. The glow is formed from small microorganisms that emit a flash of light when touched. The water is filled with phosphorous which allows it to illuminate so brilliantly when disturbed. Here, the fresh water from the Martha Brae River meets the salt-water ocean and this amazing creation is formed. This marvel is only found in 4 places in the world, however, this lagoon is the brightest of them all due to more consistent climate. Really unique experience I have no regrets. This place is MAGICAL!!! Glistening Waters is a glowing lagoon on the north coast of Jamaica. So go if you get the chance and I highly recommend swimming in the lagoon si you can experience it immersion style. Tour guide said Royal Caribbean boats were going to be mooring there soon, then the secret will be out. I don't know if someone on Environment Protection should step in to keep it sacred or not. But it's real! Caused by microorganisms called Dinoflagellates, it is a true wonder of science. However when you see the glow in the water when fish swam through I wasn't sure whether to believe it or not. It wasn't pretty with plywood benches and a gruff Captain. Then you board a pontoon style boat similar to the African Queen. Dancers that were tireless and danced in a show for hours on end. The tour begins in a large open air hall with really local entertainment. This is a scientific wonder of the world. Imaging swimming in glitter that glowed in the water. Glistening Waters Luminous Lagoon was the most unique tour I have even been on. I still thank Glistening Waters for their time and hope to return in the future. I dont have any photos to upload as all the pics we took simply didnt show anything. I would def re visit when the weather improves. Just look on youtube.there are sooo many amazing videos showing the water glowing very bright. I think in all fairness it was wrong that our tour was not cancelled as they knew and admitted themselves that `this was not the best day to come` I do feel though that on a clear sunny day this attraction will be well worth a visit. due to the fact that it had been raining alot that day. The boat ride itself was fun and jumping into a pitch black Lagoon was an experience but.did i see any Glistening water? the answer is unfortunately NO. We were in a very small group so it felt a lot more personal. sharing their local knowledge of the area and on the Lagoon itself. On arrival we were offered a glass of rum punch and taken down the jetty towards the boat. this was really annoying as it wasnt cheap as we had to travel a long way! The staff and crew were lovely. we were advised by many locals after we returned from the trip that the water will only glow bright if there has been sunshine all day. `NOTE TO ALL TRAVELERS.DO NOT VISIT IF ITS BEEN RAINING AS THE WATER DOSE NOT GLOW`. We saw this advertised many weeks before our trip and had to visit. I cant really give much on this as we saw little to nothing on our trip to Glistening Waters but I will still review as fairly as possible what I experienced.
